The Birth Story

I went to the doctor on Monday (Feb 27th) and my dc. said I could go into labor any minute. I was dilated to a 4 and 90% effaced. Tyler and I thought for sure I would go into labor on Wednesday, which was February 29th (leap day). The next days seemed so long! We were just waiting for something to happen. I felt the day was approaching because my body was so tired and was working overtime.
On Thursday Ty and I went to work together (usually we go separate). The office was kinda slow that morning, so I was watching a show online while Tyler worked. Ha ha I am a great employee. Anyways...I was way into my show and at the commercial I stood up to peek into Ty's office and say "hi." As soon as I stood up my water broke! What a weird thing that was. Ty and I stayed very calm, which was also weird. We closed the office up and headed home to get all our stuff. This all happned at around 11:30am.
The drive to the hospital was too funny. I was having small contractions but nothing major. Ty and I were both pretty relaxed. It is a strange thing driving to the hospital knowing you will leave there with a child.
Once we got to the hospital my water had broke more, so it looked like I peed my pants. A nice worker saw us walking in with my wet pants and he offered to push me in a wheel chair. So I got pushed to labor and delivery and we got all checked in.
I had to be monitored for about 20 minutes before getting the epidural. In that time I had a few strong contractions but nothing too bad. I was dilated to a five and fully effaced by this time. Then I got the epidural and it kinda slowed everything down. After a few hours I got some pitocin to speed things along. Overall I was pretty comfortable and calm. Tyler on the other hand was more of a nervous wreck. He was pacing the room for hours.
By 7:15 we were ready to start pushing. I pushed for 30 minutes and little Ivy arrived. I did not feel much since I was so numb. I did feel a little pressure once a contraction came and that was my cue to push. Since I could not feel much I would look over at Ty to see what was going on. I could tell by his face that she was getting close to coming. It was such a special experience. I will never forget the moment the doctor held up our tiny beautiful daughter. I got to hold her right away and is was awesome! There was so much going on in the room with all the doctors and nurses but for those few minutes it seemed like it was just me and her.
I had a fever during delivery so after Ivy was all cleaned up they took her to run some tests to make sure I did not give her a fever. Ty went with her as her protector and loving dad while they ran a few tests. They were gone for an hour or so running tests on Ivy and the nurses tried to get my fever down. Ivy passed all the tests and my fever finally broke in the middle of the night. All and all we were healthy and very very happy.
So that is the birth story in a nut shell. I figure I should write it all down while it is fresh in my mind. Pictures to come later...
